“Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all””
– SDG4 UNESCO
‘Quality Education’, one of the I7 development goals is pivotal to the realization of many of the other sustainable development goals including Goal 3 Health and Well-being, Goal 5 Gender Equality, Goal 8 Decent work and Economic Growth, Goal 12 Responsible Consumption and Production and Goal 13 Climate Change Mitigation.
Even the SDG Goals highlight interconnectedness of education with the majority of other sustainable development goals.
The purpose of education is not only to learn facts, but also to open mind to some of the other ways of thinking. Education is not about how many facts one can learn, but how the knowledge can be used to solve real world problems.
An education reformer, John Dewey has summed up education nicely, “Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.”
The purpose of education is not to memorize facts and theories, but to open mind to new ways of solving problems and learning to continue expanding knowledge every day.
The NEP 2020, takes into consideration the global concern of inclusive and equitable quality education which promotes lifelong leaning for all as enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4). It focuses on building the best of Human Capital through our education system, which is capable of rising to the global standards, skillful and resilient enough to cope with the challenges of the new and emerging world.
We don’t need any advanced tools or rubrics to judge sustainable and inclusive learning, it is evident when students feel confident about the knowledge, skills, values and attitude that they have acquired. If students can apply the knowledge they have built in the classroom to their surroundings, their leaning is sustainable.
Sustainable Learning is learning that lasts. At DCM Presidency we constantly strive to achieve this through well-structured and responsive teaching for all learners. We adopt the pedagogies that are project-based and promote collaborative learning which is important for sustainable learning.
